About This Course

This online course explores the diverse landscape of Physical Education (PE) worldwide, examining how global perspectives shape local practices. Through three key themes—Global Foundations and Contexts of PE, Movement in the 21st Century, and Digital Technology in PE—participants will critically engage with contemporary trends, challenges, and innovations in PE. The course highlights the role of culture, policy, and education systems in shaping PE practices, the evolving nature of movement and physical activity in modern societies, and the integration of digital technologies in PE teaching and learning. Designed for future and current educators, this course offers a flexible and interactive learning experience, fostering a deeper understanding of PE in a globalized world.

Ove Østerlie

Østerlie is employed in the department for arts, physical education, and sports, where he teaches and conducts research in the field of physical education. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor in the Griffith Institute for Educational Research, Brisbane, Australia. With over 20 years of experience in teaching at primary, secondary, and higher education levels, both in physical education and sports science in Norway and Spain, he has gained extensive experience and expertise in various aspects of the field – ranging from specific activities to pedagogical areas. His research focuses on implementation of digital technology and digital learning in physical education and PETE, and investigations related to students with concentration difficulties. Østerlie is also appointed as an external expert for the EU Commission (Erasmus+ Sport) and the European Science Foundation. In 2023, Østerlie was appointed as an 'excellent teaching practitioner' at NTNU.
